You may have various definitions of exactly what a scrapbook really is in you’re just beginning scrapbooking. And you may even have made a scrapbook for yourself without even calling it a scrapbook. But no matter what you call it, there will always be one thing central function – keeping your memories.
Just like your photos, scrapbooks are keepers of your precious moments that you will always want to come back to. The moments that you have captured in photos and of your creativity, deeply embedded in every page, with notes and captions and journals that you keep in your scrapbook.
One day in the not-too-distant future, you’ll take a look at the beginning scrapbooks you’ve created and they will take you back in time.
Not all of us are avid scrapbookers, though. Most of us have never even tried starting one. However, we all love the idea to preserve our past. Well, scrapbooking is like that, only you get to add some creativity and artistic touches to the final book.It can be a real piece of art.
As is common with most other projects, starting from scratch is usually the most difficult part. Beginning scrapbooking may look simple for some yet the hours and the ideas you have to invest on them are so enormous that many scrapbook people find themselves a little frustrated. Or maybe at wits end before a great idea crops up to begin the project. Click HERE for ideas for your scrapbook themes.
We’ve developed some guidelines that you may modify and apply in your own experience with your scrapbook. Really, this is mainly a collection of ideas that will help shed light on the creation of your own scrapbook.
Develop Your Own Style
Shine with your personality. After all, it will definitely show in your craft. If you’re not as sure which way to go with the design or the layout of your scrapbook, it’s usually best that you analyze and know your self first. Know your personal tastes and refrain from following some of the the hypes and fads and hot trends that are happening now in the beginning scrapbooking industry. This way, you will show original and personal ideas that will work best in your own ways – for you.
Sometimes, we have to find outlets for our personalities to shine through. Some people write, some take photos and videos. And some use Scrapbooking to express their artistic selves.
If you’re having trouble coming up with your own theme, it really is no sin to borrow another’s beginning scrapbooking ideas.
Sometimes, just looking at other designs will get the ideas flowing for your own work. Sometimes, they even bring out your best while “borrowing” an idea for brginning scrapbooking. This technique is known as “scraplifting.”
Other people choose not to use this concept. However for beginners it’s usually easier to follow those ideas that have worked for others. More often than not, you will develop your own scrapbooking style and methods of doing creative things.
As beginning scrapbooking, it’s not a bad idea to look at some great works. Then modify these using your own materials, photos and artisti touches. And once a good inspiring moment breaks out, the scrapbooker may find herself immersed in the confidence of doing thingin her own way.
Create Your Own Mood Board
Mood boards are commonly used in the fashion industry as testing grounds for new ideas. These are like layout boards where cutouts, drafts of designs and fabric swatches are shown to gauge the possibility of a new style. In fact, anything that will help the viewers share the direction and passion of the designers are put on the mood board.
By using mood boards, a scrapper may easily find her style. Placing concepts into more tangible mediums will construct foundation for your layouts and intentions.
Don’t be too critical of yourself during this process. While looking through magazines, you don’t need to know why a picture or animage attracts you. It just does – or doesn’t. If it produces positive reaction then go and tear it out and use it if needed. This is one good test to determine your style.
Second, you would want to verify your choices of color combinations. For some of us, we have already set definite grounds on what our favorite colors are, and which ones we’ll probably not not use. Using a single group of shades is good if you can and mix and match them into attractive combinations.
However, most people find it hard to detract themselves from a single, great concept. It’s a great idea to experiment with other tones and hues. When inspiration turns sour and there seems to be no great color combination for you, look at the butterflies for inspiration when you’re just beginning scrapbooking.
